I am writing to urge you to support efforts to reduce and eliminate occupational licensing in Nevada. As you may know, many licensing requirements are unnecessary and create a significant burden on workers and businesses, especially those in low-income and minority communities.
Occupational licensing can be especially burdensome for low-income and minority communities, who can be excluded from well-paying jobs due to unnecessary and costly licensing requirements. By reducing and eliminating these barriers to entry, we can increase economic opportunity and help to reduce poverty and inequality.
I understand that there may be concerns about safety and consumer protection, but there are many ways to ensure safety and quality without burdening workers and businesses with unnecessary licensing requirements. For example, we can implement testing and certification requirements that do not require a costly and time-consuming licensing process.
Moreover, unnecessary licensing requirements can create a significant barrier to entry for entrepreneurs who wish to start businesses or provide services. These requirements limit competition and often serve as a means to protect incumbent businesses from new competition. By reducing these barriers, we can encourage entrepreneurship and promote a more competitive and dynamic business environment.
I urge you to support efforts to reduce and eliminate occupational licensing in Nevada. By doing so, we can increase economic opportunity, reduce poverty and inequality, and strengthen our state's economy.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
